Seeing the Divine
Aligning with the Pulse of the Here and Now
This past week, I was grateful to do two of my most favorite things: being outside and listening to music. The song, “My Sweet Lord,” by George Harrison came on, and my thoughts clung to these lyrics:
I really want to see you
Really want to be with you
Really want to see you Lord
But it takes so long, my Lord
The duality of life is such a challenging concept to people who seek higher truth and meaning… and even for those who don’t. We live in a world that is not transcendental but can be filled with a wide array of experiences that fill us with joy and wonder of the miraculous moments we encounter but also can bring us pain and suffering beyond our comprehension and ability to process. How are we to reconcile these seemingly opposing realities, sometimes in one week or even one day?
Looking through the shamanic lens, I am able to see the consciousness of the trees, I feel their wisdom and willingness to communicate with us as well as everything within their reach. I hear the songs of birds as it fills my heart with lightness. I feel the breeze and remember how ancient the wind is, and liken it to the breath of this great Earth. I touch a sweet flower meeting the day and I smell its sweet fragrance.
It doesn’t mean that everything is smooth sailing all the time. It is a choice to align with this being-ness. And? It's a practice that everyone can do.
To me, there is no old man sitting up in the sky (why this consciousness been made to be male is another piece of writing in itself, but I digress...) judging us when we leave our bodies and existing separate from our experience here. The Divine Consciousness is right here, and yet everywhere at once. It exists whether we want to believe it or not. It is our breath. It is our blood. It resides in our cells. It's in the rose blooming outside. It's in the summer breeze. It's in the sun, the moon and the stars as well as the stardust. Divine Consciousness is in all forms internal and external. Shamanism is the ancient practice of allowing part of the spirit to travel to the shamanic worlds in order to meet divine allies who take form in order to understand what or who they are. But they only take form so our wee little minds can understand.
What if we don’t have to wait to “see” God? What if this divinity is everywhere around us, found in differing forms and we just have to align with the frequency of it to see? What if that consciousness just likes to change shape to keep it interesting?
Perhaps it’s us living in forgetfulness, being stuck in our suffering, bringing suffering to others, being stuck in our thoughts or “to do lists,” and living our programmed human hierarchy that separates us from the divine - a divinity within and without that is always available. What if we chose to take a breath to touch the great being that is our beloved Earth Home that we live and walk upon to align with the present moment of the Divine?
In this moment, whatever that moment is, “seeing God” might be as simple as touching the divine presence of ourselves and the ancient consciousness that walks alongside us in various forms in this world. When we do this, we become present, and we are able to shine.
On this Summer Solstice Eve, I see you in your own unique, radiant Light. Shine on.
