The Ancestors: A Source of Infinite Support
We step together into what is the seventh week of stay-at-home orders here in Maine, USA. However, we are experiencing this together. We all have differing situations, thoughts and emotions that come with this very surreal experience, however we must remember that we are all navigating through this time together.
In this world, I observe a lot of fear, despair, anger and grieving, which is completely understandable. It may feel like there is uncertain ground due to misinformation as well as no definitive plan to move through this, but there is opportunity to create a web of support here in this world.
The last seven weeks has given me the opportunity to go deeper into my shamanic work. In the Spirit World, there is much support available at any time. When I step back and see through the eyes of Spirit, I understand that Mother Earth is speaking loudly. It is truly time to listen to Her and all beings working as stewards to keep Her healthy. The perceptions and lessons Spirit show me gives me a deeper understanding that Mother Earth is trying to balance herself. As a shamanic practitioner, I understand and have seen, with non-attachment, the gross imbalance for many years. But as a human, it is surreal to watch the events currently unfolding.
During times like this, I turn to my energetic support system: my helping spirits. Part of my team of support includes the wisdom and love of the Ancestors. They have lived on this Earth and understand the struggles we face in our lives. With gratitude, I asked the many generations how they navigated through crises such as pandemics.
They were loving and yet firm:
They said that they supported each other. They said their extended families were close-knit and they showed me that despite wars, famine and disease that they tried to lift each other up and focus on the present moment.
They also stated that we are seeing the consequences of our own actions. We have chosen to become nuclear and that means we no longer have extended family to support us. We also have chosen technology over being fully present in our modern lives.
“Are you happy with those choices?” they asked. “Because now is the time when those choices will clearly only bring you suffering.”
They expressed that what moved them through very challenging times was loving each other. Not dividing, not fighting, not continuing to separate.
That’s it. Being present and loving each other. It’s pretty simple, isn’t it? The Ancestors are loving and wise teachers.
During this time, it is so important to remember that we are our Ancestor's seeds of hope. We are their unhatched eggs, full of potential. Just like your children's great-grandchildren, there is an automatic unconditional love that is manifested just by thinking about them, even though they haven't been born yet. That is how they love us. They want the best for us, and are quick to point out when we are getting in our own way.
This time is an opportunity to reflect upon how we might realign our trajectory, by changing our behavior towards each other and ourselves, the Earth and the other sentient beings that reside with us here. Perhaps we have been forced by these acts of nature to truly simplify our lives from the very complicated tangles of modern society.
